htmx is an open-source front-end JavaScript library that extends HTML with custom attributes, giving direct access to AJAX, CSS transitions, WebSockets and Server-Sent Events from markup instead of hand-written JavaScript. It was created by Carson Gross, who teaches computer science at Montana State University, as the successor to his 2013 library intercooler.js, and version 1.0 shipped in November 2020. The project advocates a hypermedia-driven approach to web applications and is released under the BSD 0-clause license.

Carson Gross answers whether to still become a programmer: yes, but write the code yourself. He rejects the compiler analogy for LLMs, warns of the Sorcerer's Apprentice trap, and recommends AI as a tutor rather than a generator.
