Career
Burke built Outlier Ventures around emerging technology and venture research. The firm’s September 2023 succession announcement moved him from CEO to chairman while Stephan Apel took the chief-executive role. His owned site organizes research, investments and earlier work through a provenance graph, connecting ideas with the sources and projects that informed them.[3][2]
Ideas
Move from browsing services to delegating outcomes
The introductory Post Web episode describes a shift from an attention economy toward an intention economy. Instead of visiting websites and choosing every intermediate step, a user delegates work to agents that coordinate through machine-readable services and blockchains. Burke presents verification and contextual execution as necessary infrastructure for that proposed web.[4]
Connect agent decisions with verifiable execution
The coauthored thesis distinguishes an adaptive interface from the execution beneath it. Agents interpret a user’s desired outcome and coordinate the intermediate work, while distributed ledgers and smart contracts provide traceable, predictable transactions. It proposes optimistic verification for some interactions: accept an operation provisionally, then verify when a dispute or inconsistency appears. The authors argue that this combination could hide Web3’s operational complexity from ordinary users while preserving provenance and allowing private information to remain private.[5]
