Career
Norman learned programming as a child, then moved into web development, Ruby on Rails and ecommerce in his early twenties. His consulting work has included payment platforms, commerce applications, integrations and large platform migrations. He now runs Super Good, a team specializing in ecommerce, web applications and Rails. His public homepage also identifies him as a Solidus core-team member.[2][1]
Ideas
What About Rails? responds to David Heinemeier Hansson’s Rails World 2026 keynote and his embrace of language-model code generation. Norman asks what that shift means for people maintaining Rails applications and choosing a framework for a long-lived business. His argument concerns leadership, technical judgment and the obligations a framework has to its users. It is an opinion essay responding to the keynote, rather than an experimental comparison of generated and handwritten software.[3]
