Career
Park studied industrial engineering and data mining at Seoul National University, completing her doctorate in 2016. She then worked at Naver until 2020 before co-founding Upstage. In June 2024 she moved from chief scientific officer to chief product officer, focusing on bringing models and platforms into production.[1]
Contributions
Make Korean language analysis accessible in Python
KoNLPy provides a common Python interface to Korean language-analysis tools. Users can compare sentence splitting, noun extraction and part-of-speech tagging without rebuilding each underlying analyzer’s integration. Park co-authored the project’s 2014 paper with Sungzoon Cho. The package brings existing analyzers together rather than claiming to invent all of their linguistic methods.[2]
Publish an inspectable sentiment dataset
Park’s Naver Sentiment Movie Corpus contains 200,000 Korean movie reviews, split into training and held-out testing sets. It uses review ratings to assign positive or negative labels and excludes the middle ratings. Those choices make it useful for a first sentiment-classification experiment, while also defining its limits: it represents short movie reviews and a deliberately balanced binary task.[3]
