Contributions
Open information extraction addresses a scaling problem in turning text into structured facts. Traditional extractors need a person to specify the relations they want, then repeat analysis when the target changes. TextRunner instead makes a pass through a corpus to discover relation tuples, assigns probabilities and indexes the results for later queries. Etzioni and his coauthors evaluated this approach on web pages. Extracted assertions still require quality checks; they are not automatically established facts.[3]

TextRunner discovers and indexes relational assertions from a corpus without predefining every target relation.
Read the motivation and TextRunner pipeline before the results. Basic familiarity with text processing helps; ask how extracted assertions are scored and what evidence would be needed to trust a particular claim.
