Career

Processors, standards and enterprise software

Gelsinger began at Intel in 1979, became the company’s first chief technology officer and was the architect of the original 80486 processor. Intel credits him with managing processor programs and work on technologies including USB and Wi-Fi. He later led EMC’s Information Infrastructure Products business and became VMware CEO in 2012. His second Intel period ran from February 2021 to December 2024 as CEO and a director. Intel records electrical-engineering qualifications from Lincoln Technical Institute, Santa Clara University and Stanford University.[1]

A product and engineering role at Gloo

Gloo’s March 2025 announcement expanded Gelsinger’s work from investor and board chairman to executive chair and head of technology. It assigns him leadership of product and engineering, including Gloo AI. The company describes its goal as a technology platform for faith-oriented organizations and a vertical cloud for that ecosystem. Gelsinger’s current management biography retains the role. The work therefore combines an operating technology position with his separate venture-capital responsibilities.[4][5]

Contributions

At Playground Global, Gelsinger works with early-stage companies building computing, automation, energy and other physical technologies. The firm’s appointment announcement describes a role that combines investment with board work, mentoring chief executives and technical support for portfolio companies. His current profile lists investments across areas such as optical computing connections, power delivery and advanced manufacturing, and identifies him as executive chair of xLight. This carries his experience with hardware development and large organizations into advising companies still building their first products.[2][3]
