Tracing a process to its cause
Witr starts from a process, port, container or file and traces the chain that launched it. Instead of leaving a developer to combine separate process listings and service-manager outputs, it shows the ancestry and surrounding context in one report. The aim is to explain both what started a process and what keeps it running, including supervisors, containers and service layers.[2]
The same investigation in several forms
A terminal interface supports interactive exploration, while JSON output lets scripts or coding agents consume the result. The repository includes examples and a simulated Linux environment that can be explored in a browser. These offer ways to understand the investigation before using the tool against a live system.[2]

Open the browser tutorial linked from the README and investigate one simulated process first. Command-line use then requires a supported operating system and enough familiarity with processes to interpret the report.
