Sawyer Hood is an independent software engineer building tools for coding agents. Previously a senior staff engineer at Figma, he worked on FigJam and Dev Mode plugins before developing projects including Middleman and dev-browser.[1][2][3]

Career
Hood’s work at Facebook from 2016 to 2019 involved a React and Redux design tool for prototypes built with real components. At Figma from 2020 to 2024, he was an early FigJam engineer, prototyped widgets and led Dev Mode plugins. He has worked independently since 2024, exploring interfaces and infrastructure for agent-assisted development.[1]
Contributions
Middleman addresses the overhead of coordinating several coding agents. Hood describes a local daemon that tracks workers and routes messages, a management interface and a persistent manager agent. The manager can dispatch tasks and surface questions while retaining project context. His example workflow uses separate agents for planning and implementation, then brings results back for review.[2]

An explanation of a persistent manager coordinating local coding agents.
Read the implemented architecture and example workflow before setup. It helps to have used coding agents; running the system requires its documented local tools and provider access.
