Career
Shaukat joined Sonar as co-CEO and a board member in September 2023. He previously served as president of Bumble from July 2020 to August 2023 and president of Google Cloud from 2016 to 2020. Sonar’s biography records mechanical-engineering degrees at MIT and Stanford, plus an MIT master’s in technology and policy. His earlier career also included Caesars Entertainment and McKinsey.[2]
Contributions
In the Sonar and McKinsey panel, Shaukat discusses three factors behind successful agent adoption: process, tooling and people. A demonstration team does not automatically spread new working habits across an organization. Engineers must make implicit project knowledge explicit and evaluate an agent’s confident answers critically. The panel treats these responsibilities as part of deployment, alongside the technical integration.[3]
Ideas
His Open Secure AI Alliance essay connects Sonar’s open-source tools with support for maintainers and the evaluation of generated code. It describes contributing software and collaboration around quality, reliability and security. This work addresses the shared infrastructure on which both developers and coding agents depend.[4]
