Career

Hans describes an earlier focus on Kubernetes and infrastructure as code, especially Terraform, followed by contributions to Spin and SpinKube. Spin runs applications compiled to WebAssembly; SpinKube brings that application model to Kubernetes. His current advocacy work at Akamai helps developers build distributed applications for the edge. His personal site also records Microsoft MVP awards from 2011 through 2025 and Docker Captain awards in 2022 and 2023.[1]

Contributions

His Spin 4.0 tutorial builds an HTTP service and a separate message classifier in Rust. A WebAssembly Interface Types definition specifies the classifier’s input and output, generated bindings connect the pieces, and the Spin manifest declares the dependency. The example shows how reusable components can keep request handling separate from application logic without making readers assemble the integration themselves.[3]

Ideas

The composition guide progresses from scaffolding to interface definitions, implementation, dependency wiring and curl requests. That sequence exposes where each boundary lives: the HTTP component validates a request, while the classifier owns the classification rule. Readers can compare the finished example with its repository and apply the same separation to their own service.[3]

Use this hands-on example to learn what WebAssembly component composition actually connects. Familiarity with Rust helps; install the Rust target and Spin CLI versions listed in the guide first.
