Retex is a LuaLaTeX-compatible TeX engine written in Rust and released under CC0. The author says it can be a drop-in replacement running two to three times faster in compatibility mode, or a modern engine with clearer error messages, SVG support, ODT and ODP export, PDF/X output, automatic package download, and Python bindings. The author states it was generated entirely by a large language model.
