World Labs designed Spark 2.0 to display large 3D worlds without keeping all their detail in a device's graphics memory. These worlds consist of many translucent colored shapes called Gaussian splats. Spark organizes them into a hierarchy, displaying simpler versions where fine detail would be hard to see. It downloads sharper detail according to the camera's position and replaces lower-priority data when its fixed memory pool fills. The technical article explains how this lets a browser progressively explore a scene larger than the data it can hold at once.
