OpenRouter's presets move shared model settings outside individual applications. Apps reference a saved configuration by name, and subsequent requests use its active version. The configuration guide explains that changing the preset can update those apps' model instructions or settings without redeploying their code.
That convenience also defines the scope of a change: every application using the same preset can receive the update. Version history allows restoring earlier settings, while parameters supplied explicitly in an individual request can override preset defaults. Teams therefore share a centrally managed configuration while retaining request-specific control.
