Context
OpenRouter's /tools API makes its server-tool catalog readable by software. An can request the catalog or look up one tool by name, including which models support that tool natively. This lets an integration discover available capabilities programmatically. The announcement also says the Server Tools Marketplace data it exposes includes what it calls best-in-market prices.
Catalog discovery and tool execution are separate steps. The documentation describes adding selected tools to a model request; the model then decides whether to call them, and OpenRouter handles the server-side execution. Reading /tools supplies information for configuring that request.
