Context
Python applications on Vercel can use a WebSocket connection to exchange messages in both directions between the browser and server. That matters for interactive AI interfaces: the server can send updates while the client continues sending input through the same connection. The announcement includes a Python function that accepts a connection, receives text and sends text back repeatedly.
Support covers both ASGI and WSGI applications, the two Python application interfaces named in the release. This adds a communication mechanism for chat and live collaboration within Python Functions; the example establishes message exchange rather than a complete application.
- streaming — Sending a model's response token by token as it is generated, so the reader sees text immediately instead of waiting for the whole answer.
“Vercel now supports WebSocket connections for Python applications.”
“WebSockets enable bidirectional communication between client- and server-side code, powering real-time features like interactive AI streaming, real-time chat, and multiplayer live collaboration.”
“Both ASGI and WSGI applications are supported, including frameworks like FastAPI, Django, and Flask.”
