We've added a new cookbook: connect a Claude Managed Agent to @vercel's Chat SDK. This gives an agent access to a universal chat layer. https://t.co/0FrWT6C6R3

Chat SDK gives you the chat interface: one type-safe `onDirectMessage` handler, 15+ adapters across Slack, Teams, Discord, web and more. Managed Agents runs the agent server-side: harness, session management, and memory. Each conversation is one persistent session.

As a bonus you can also bring your own Vercel Sandbox for tool execution, or use the built-in environment. https://t.co/waVD6sf2ig

Context

Anthropic's cookbook connects a Claude Managed to Vercel's Chat SDK by separating message delivery from agent execution. Chat SDK handles the chat interface and platform adapters. Managed Agents runs the work on the server and maintains a persistent session for each conversation. The cookbook demonstrates this with a research assistant in a browser.

This division lets a developer reuse the agent behind different chat surfaces while changing the adapter and completing the destination platform's setup. Persistence belongs to each conversation; the example does not describe a single shared memory spanning every chat service.

  • AI agent — An AI system that doesn't just answer once but works toward a goal in a loop — taking actions, reading the results, and deciding what to do next.
  • sandbox — An isolated environment where AI-generated code or agent actions run without being able to touch anything real.
