👉 Copilot code review depth is now up to you. Balanced depth is now generally available. Select Balanced for deeper analysis and more thorough reviews on your pull requests, or choose Lite for straightforward changes. Set the default depth at the org or repo level, or select depth when requesting a review on your PR. Balanced or Lite, get the right-sized reviews for your PRs. ✅

GitHub lets teams choose how deeply Copilot examines a proposed code change. Its August 2026 release offers Lite for straightforward changes and Balanced for deeper analysis using a higher-.
Teams can establish a default and select a different level for an individual review. The individual selection applies to that review without changing the shared default. This lets a team request extra scrutiny for a complex change while keeping a different routine setting; the announcement does not quantify improvements in defect detection.
