Vigil is a macOS menu bar app that reads lifecycle hooks from Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Cursor, Copilot CLI, and similar tools to know exactly when a coding agent is working, waiting for input, or done, and holds the Mac awake for that duration. It releases the sleep hold automatically on completion, failure, or a configurable grace period after an input request, tracks sub-agents and multiple concurrent sessions from the menu bar, and discards conversation content and tool output rather than logging it.
Why it made the leaderboard
Vigil keeps a Mac awake only while a coding agent session is actually working or waiting on approval, then lets it sleep again, closing a real gap left by generic caffeinate-style tools.
