Codex bundles LibreOffice

Context

Simon Willison found that a local installation of OpenAI's Codex desktop app, since renamed ChatGPT, included LibreOffice, an open-source office suite, alongside Python, Node.js and other utilities. The September 1 inspection also found document skills telling the how to locate and use the bundled programs.

The significant detail is the pairing of executable tools with instructions for using them. It gives the agent an installed office suite to call when working on documents. The observation establishes what was present in that local runtime folder, without measuring the quality of the resulting documents.
