About
An open-source TypeScript framework for building applications that serve human users and AI agents from the same codebase. Functionality is defined once as an "Action" and then invoked from a React UI, embedded agent chat, HTTP API, MCP, A2A, or CLI, with users and agents sharing the same SQL data and application state. It ships with auth, organizations, permissions, skills and memory, scheduled automations, and agent teams, plus cloneable example apps for mail, calendar, slides, analytics, and more.
What it does
The repository behind this entry is Builder.io's public pack of agent skills: instruction files a coding agent such as Claude Code or Codex loads to handle specific jobs. One installer command lets you pick skills and target clients. The set covers opening hosted Agent-Native apps like Slides inside the agent's browser pane, driving web pages through their own tool interfaces instead of clicking, turning text plans and diffs into visual review documents, packaging a proven workflow as a runnable app, and an experimental Factory group that turns support threads, errors and telemetry into gated pull requests.
Why it's ranked here
This is the agent-facing doorway into the Agent-Native ecosystem, published by Builder.io under MIT. Several skills are copied from the main framework repository by a sync script with a check mode, so they track the source rather than drifting. The instructions are unusually operational: they name each host's quirks, cap retries, and insist every write is read back before success is reported. The catch is that the repository is a skills pack, not the framework the catalogue entry describes, so its value depends on adopting the hosted apps.
What's good
The safety rules are specific. The Factory group sets separate policies for fixing, replying, approving, merging and deploying, and states that permission for one never implies another; missing policy means hold. The web tools skill forbids falling back to clicking or typing when page tools are missing and stops instead. The skill for opening apps refuses to request passwords, cookies or tokens. The plan arbiter gives a fixed tie-break order: correctness first, token cost last. Host bug notes record measured failures, such as one app registering 217 tools when its pane was visible but only 59 after 28 seconds hidden.
Tradeoffs
Much of the pack leans on hosted services: the app skills route through Builder's Dispatch connector and the plan skills default to a hosted Plans app, though a local-files mode exists. Factory is labelled experimental and installs no integrations, credentials or schedules; the config is a convention, not a validated schema. Rewind needs macOS and a separate desktop capture app. The package itself is marked private at version zero, and the synced skills cannot be refreshed without a checkout of the framework repository beside this one.
How to use it well
Install it if you already use, or plan to try, the hosted Agent-Native apps and want your coding agent to operate them directly. The plan arbiter and docs-first skills stand alone and are the low-commitment place to start. For Factory, follow the pack's own advice: begin with manual runs and read-only source checks, try one low-risk fix, and enable approval, merge or deploy only with explicit criteria. If you want the framework for building your own agent-plus-UI apps, this pack is not it.
Technical notes+
package.json names the package @builder.io/skills, version 0.0.0, private, MIT, with scripts check:skills and check:agent-native-skills (sync-agent-native-skills.mjs --check). .claude-plugin/plugin.json registers builder-skills with skills at ./skills/ and an mcpServers entry pointing at a root-level MCP config. scripts/sync-agent-native-skills.mjs resolves an, visual-plan, visual-recap, visual-edit and turn-into-app from a sibling ../agent-native/framework checkout (overridable via AGENT_NATIVE_SKILLS_SOURCE) across four layouts, preserves README.md overlays, and extracts the rewind skill from a REWIND_SKILL_MD template literal, rejecting interpolation. skills/factory/SKILL.md reads a per-project factory YAML config with a skill_prompts map; docs/factory/README.md defines the action policies. skills/webmcp/SKILL.md calls document.modelContext and the window.__agentNativeWebMcp helper; commands/an.md calls Dispatch open_app with embed true.
