Context
Upstage's Solar Open 2 announcement describes training an agent model to check whether its actions changed the working environment as intended. In tool-use examples, the system performs an action and reads back the resulting state. Coding examples include running tests and repairing failures.
These training scenarios target a recurring problem in multi-step work: a plausible response can conceal an unfinished task. The company says its data pipeline retains examples that pass verification, aiming to teach execution and correction together. That explains the training objective; it does not establish that every deployed agent will finish its work reliably.
Terms in this piece · Glossary
- open weights — A model whose trained parameters are published for anyone to download and run — unlike API-only models you can access but never possess.
- mixture-of-experts — A model built from many specialist sub-networks where only a few activate per token, giving big-model capability at small-model running cost.
- context window — The maximum amount of text a model can consider at once — its working memory for the current conversation or task.
- quantization — Shrinking a model by storing its numbers less precisely — like rounding — so it runs faster and fits on smaller hardware, at a small quality cost.
