ICAO ePassport Inspector is an iOS app that reads the contactless chip in ICAO 9303 electronic travel documents via NFC and verifies them entirely on-device. It establishes a secure session using PACE or BAC, reads data groups including the MRZ and portrait image, and performs passive authentication by checking the document's signature chain against ICAO PKD trust anchors, reporting either verification success or failure without any network requests or data collection.
Why it made the leaderboard
Lets engineers building or integrating eMRTD passport-reading systems test PACE/BAC handshakes and passive authentication against real chips entirely offline, with no server or data collection.
