About

Differential is a terminal (TUI) program that regroups large code diffs into semantically related chunks to make them easier to review, running beside a git worktree on either a local or remote machine. It's aimed at the review bottleneck created by AI coding agents, which can generate diffs faster than a human can read through them line by line.

At a glance

Differential groups a local patch into related changes for terminal review. It is worth trying if a large agent patch is hard to follow in file order and you want a better starting point for reading it.

Good fit

Developers reviewing several interdependent edits in a local or remote worktree.

Consider something else when

A plain diff is simpler for a small change or when you need only an exact file-by-file view.

Start here

Open a scratch patch with two distinct changes. Compare the proposed groups with the full diff and check whether the suggested order helps explain the dependencies.

Cost and requirements

Terminal application run beside the worktree. The project describes a local review flow without requiring a hosted forge.

Limits to know

Grouping is a review aid. Inspect the full diff and check related files even if they appear in different groups.

Why it made the leaderboard

Addresses the specific bottleneck of reviewing large AI-agent-generated diffs by regrouping changes semantically instead of paging through a flat unified diff.
