Context

NVIDIA's tutorial shows how to customize Nemotron 3 Nano using Prime Intellect Lab's hosted training infrastructure. Its example rewards correct answers to math problems solved with Python tools and produces a downloadable adapter, a compact set of learned adjustments used with the base model. Users need access to the hosted service but do not manage a local GPU cluster. The tutorial describes the workflow and prerequisites.

The workflow measures the original model, trains the adapter, then repeats the on the same held-out math problems. Keeping the evaluation fixed makes the comparison interpretable. The advertised minutes concern getting set up; evaluation and training continue afterward. The instructions distinguish setup from the longer-running work.

Terms in this piece · Glossary
  • LoRA — A cheap way to fine-tune a model by training a small add-on layer instead of changing all of the model's weights.
  • eval — A repeatable test for AI quality — a set of tasks plus scoring — used the way software teams use test suites, because model output is too variable to judge by eyeballing.
