Context

Factory, a platform that runs coding agents against a company's codebase, made GPT-6 Astra, OpenAI's newest model, available to all of its customers, per Factory's post. This came shortly after OpenAI made the model broadly available to its own Pro, Enterprise and Business Premium customers (OpenAI's GA announcement), so Factory's update is about giving its own customers access to that already-released model rather than a new model launch.

For a sense of what the model actually does once given repository access, an early-access account from developer steipete reported that Astra chased failing tests out of the local codebase and into dependencies, producing patches against underlying packages like vitest, tsx and SwiftPM rather than stopping at the user's own code (early account). That is one practitioner's early observation, not a controlled , but it describes the kind of behavior Factory's customers can now try for themselves.

Terms in this piece · Glossary
  • eval — A repeatable test for AI quality — a set of tasks plus scoring — used the way software teams use test suites, because model output is too variable to judge by eyeballing.
  • AI agent — An AI system that doesn't just answer once but works toward a goal in a loop — taking actions, reading the results, and deciding what to do next.
