Context

A improvement can come from the system around a model. ARC Prize's analysis of its 2025 results describes systems that propose solutions, test them against examples and revise them using the resulting feedback. That loop can improve performance without replacing the underlying model.

The useful distinction is between generating a plausible answer and having a way to check it. These tasks provide examples against which candidate solutions can be tested, making repeated refinement possible. Extra attempts also consume more computation, so a higher score needs its cost and setup beside it. The report supports this approach on ARC tasks; it does not establish that every real-world problem offers an equally reliable checking process.

Terms in this piece · Glossary
  • benchmark — A standard public test set for comparing AI models — the shared scoreboards behind every "model X beats model Y" claim.
  • eval — A repeatable test for AI quality — a set of tasks plus scoring — used the way software teams use test suites, because model output is too variable to judge by eyeballing.
