About
gwae is a lightweight, infinite-scroll terminal multiplexer and agent orchestrator built for macOS, designed to manage fleets of AI coding agents running in parallel. It shows a live heads-up display of pane status (running, idle, failed), lets you jump between idle panes with failed ones ranked first, and includes a spawn-directory picker for starting new agent panes.
At a glance
gwae is a macOS terminal multiplexer that lets you scroll sideways through coding-agent panes at a fixed width. It is worth a look if you routinely juggle more local agents than fit on your screen.
Good fit
Mac users who want to spot idle or failed agents without compressing every terminal into a narrow column.
Consider something else when
Keep a persistent session manager if you need to detach and reconnect over SSH.
Start here
Open several disposable shells, scroll across the strip and check that the pane widths stay useful. Then try your own harness and compare the status display with what the agent is actually doing.
Cost and requirements
MIT-licensed project developed and tested on macOS. Agent state uses OSC 133 terminal markers, and keybindings require Option to work as Meta.
Limits to know
The status display depends on the signals emitted by the terminal workflow. The author documents testing with Ghostty and Jcode, so verify your own combination.
