A macOS app that teaches how language models work and then lets you build one. It pairs a roughly 90-minute interactive textbook — tokenization, embeddings, attention, transformers, training data, loss, fine-tuning, each with an embedded playground — with a native workbench that runs pre-training, sampling, supervised fine-tuning, direct preference optimization and chat on Apple Silicon. It assumes no coding, ML or math background and runs entirely on-device, with no account, subscription or cloud component.
Why it made the leaderboard
If you want to actually understand how LLMs work rather than just run them, this app walks you through building one from scratch — training a tokenizer, pre-training, fine-tuning, and chatting with your own model — all locally on your Mac via Apple's MLX, paired with an interactive textbook. It's a hands-on learning experience, not another model runner.
