Web Bot Auth gives websites a way to verify the identity behind automated requests. As Browserbase explains, an operator signs requests with a private key and publishes a public key that websites can use to check the signature. That establishes control of the signing key, while the website still decides what access to allow. A malicious operator can sign requests too, so reputation and permission remain separate decisions. The useful change is a verifiable identity on which a website can base its access policy. Browserbase's explanation describes that division.
