About

OpenSAS is an open-source, SAS 9.4-compatible interpreter written in Zig that produces byte-for-byte matching output to proprietary SAS across full clinical pipelines (SDTM, ADaM). It was built entirely by a coordinated team of seven coding agents using only public SAS documentation, comprising 87,795 lines of code, 3,548 commits, and over 2,600 unit and conformance tests, and runs on Linux, Windows, macOS, and in-browser.

What it can do

  • Interpret and execute SAS 9.4 code

SAS 9.4 program codeProgram output matching proprietary SAS

  • Process clinical data pipelines (SDTM, ADaM)

Why it made the leaderboard

Opens execution-based testing to a 50-year-old proprietary language dominant in clinical trial programming, and is a notable proof point for multi-agent coordination on a large, test-heavy systems project.
