Context

Vercel's AI SDK can run GitHub Copilot through the same HarnessAgent interface used for other supported coding agents. The official adapter announcement explains that an adapter connects Copilot through the Client Protocol, the communication layer between the agent and its host application.

For an application already built around HarnessAgent, this provides another coding-agent option, and the announcement says agents can be switched without changing application code. The shared interface concerns how the application runs an agent; developers still choose which supported agent supplies the coding behavior.

Terms in this piece · Glossary
  • AI agent — An AI system that doesn't just answer once but works toward a goal in a loop — taking actions, reading the results, and deciding what to do next.
  • agent harness — The scaffolding around a model that turns it into a working agent — the loop, the tools it can call, and the rules for when to stop.
