Context

DeepSeek's growth on OpenRouter, a service that routes developers' requests to many models, was driven mostly by traffic classified as activity. OpenRouter's June 2026 analysis reported that DeepSeek's share of volume rose from 9% in January to 18% in June, and said agentic workloads drove most of that gain. By the end of May, V4-Flash accounted for 70% of DeepSeek's agent-classified token traffic.

Those figures measure input and output text processed through one platform, not spending: OpenRouter notes that V4 is cheap, so token share and spend share can diverge sharply. OpenRouter classified activity using signals such as tool-call rate, turn count and gap timing, and assigned each API key its dominant pattern. The results document a shift in workload usage on this platform; they do not directly measure customer counts, spending or successful task completion.
