Context

OpenRouter lets teams enforce shared rules where their model requests are routed. Its May release roundup describes workspace controls for spending limits, permitted models and providers, and sensitive-data redaction, configurable without changing application code.

The dedicated guardrails announcement explains an important budget detail: assigning one rule to several people gives each person a separate allowance. Member and API-key limits also apply independently, so a key can exhaust its allowance while its owner's broader budget still has room. These are controls on individual spending paths, rather than a shared pool. Budget enforcement details.
