Vercel Sandbox supports forking

Why it matters

If you run workloads in Vercel , fork() lets you branch a preconfigured base — runtime, packages, env vars already baked into a snapshot — into per-tenant or per-experiment copies instead of rebuilding setup on every cold create, with overrides for anything that needs to differ per fork.

Terms in this piece · Glossary
  • sandbox — An isolated environment where AI-generated code or agent actions run without being able to touch anything real.
  • AI agent — An AI system that doesn't just answer once but works toward a goal in a loop — taking actions, reading the results, and deciding what to do next.
Key quotes

“If the source is running, it forks the latest saved state, not the live in-memory state.”

“Use it to branch an agent from a shared base, give each tenant its own copy of a template, or run variations of one setup in parallel.”

“A fork takes about the same time as creating a sandbox, with the same limits.”
