It's had a good run and was a lot of fun, but usage has been declining and we have significantly better models now. Time to make room for the future.
Tibo, who works on OpenAI's developer platform, said OpenAI will retire GPT-5.3-Codex-Spark the week after this post, around mid-September 2026, citing declining usage and the availability of significantly better models since it shipped.
Anyone still building on GPT-5.3-Codex-Spark needs to move to a newer Codex model before the retirement date; OpenAI did not name a specific replacement model in this post.
