OpenAI's GPT-5.4 retirement notice depends on how a user signs in. The July 31 changelog entry says GPT-5.4 and GPT-5.4 mini will no longer be available to users signed in with ChatGPT starting August 31. The models remain available on the OpenAI API and in Codex sessions authenticated with an API key.
The change therefore applies to one access path rather than to the models everywhere: sign-in through ChatGPT loses them, while API access and API-key sessions keep them.
