Black Forest Labs describes FLUX Video Upscale as a way to regenerate video at higher resolution, up to 4K. Its two operating modes expose a consequential choice: how much the system should preserve the source versus invent additional detail.
Precise uses fewer processing steps and is described as faster, cheaper, and better at maintaining identity and reference details. Creative uses more steps for repair and detail generation, but the company says it can change or replace identity. For footage whose subject must remain recognizable, that distinction matters more than the output resolution alone. The product announcement explicitly documents this tradeoff.
