GitHub announced that Google DeepMind's Gemini 3.8 Flash is now available in GitHub Copilot's app, CLI and VS Code. GitHub said its own early testing found the model performed strongly on complex terminal-based coding tasks and showed rigorous validation and persistent recovery when a step failed.

Those performance characterizations are GitHub's own testing rather than an independently published . The model became available the same day Google released it, alongside additions to other coding tools such as Cursor.
