About

Conversational AI app for drafting, explanations and working with supplied material, with optional connected-app context and actions. Free and paid access have variable usage limits. Personal activity settings affect data use, retention and connector availability; direct API usage is separate.

At a glance

Gemini is worth trying for drafting, explaining unfamiliar material and turning information you supply into a more usable form, provided you can check the result. It is a conversational AI application: you give it a task and context, then refine the response through follow-up questions. Start with a low-stakes task you already understand. The practical test is whether reviewing and correcting its answer saves effort compared with doing the work yourself, not whether the first response sounds confident.

Good fit

People who want interactive help with an outline, an explanation or a summary, and can provide clear instructions and assess the output. Connected Apps can add context from other services and perform supported actions with your permission. That can make an assistant more useful than an isolated chat, but it also changes what data and actions are involved. Check the available connectors and supported operations for your account rather than assuming every advertised integration works on every device.

Consider something else when

You need guaranteed factual answers, cannot review generated material, or need a predictable unlimited allowance. Large files and long conversations consume more of the available usage; important details can be missed when content exceeds the context window. For software that needs programmatic model calls, evaluate the Google Gemini API separately. An app subscription and direct API usage have different billing. Some subscription benefits apply inside AI Studio, which does not turn an API key into unlimited subscription access.

Start here

For a documented trial, open the web app and enter a short synthetic set of notes you wrote yourself. Ask for a concise summary and for assumptions to be listed separately, then compare every claim with the notes and request a correction. A useful result preserves the supplied facts without inventing details. Some features work signed out depending on device and location; additional features and saved activity require a suitable account. For personal accounts, Temporary chat avoids adding the conversation to recent chats, with retention limits still applying. This proposed trial was not run: no prompt, upload, account connection or generated result was tested for this review.

Cost and requirements

The US subscription page checked 31 October 2026 lists Free at US$0 with a Google Account, AI Plus at US$4.99 per month and AI Pro at US$19.99 per month. Higher tiers increase access; they do not remove usage limits. The current limits guide describes compute-based usage affected by prompt complexity, tools and conversation length, with five-hour refreshes and a weekly limit. Availability and limits can change, and some free features may be restricted during high demand. Country, age, account type and device also affect access. Work and school accounts have separate eligibility and administrative requirements. Confirm the plan and local checkout for the feature you actually need; direct API charges are separate.

Limits to know

For personal accounts with Keep Activity on, the privacy guide says saved activity can help train models and may receive human review. Turning it off changes future use; it does not erase previously reviewed data. Temporary chats and chats with Keep Activity off are retained for 72 hours. Temporary chats are not used to train models; submitting feedback with activity off can still share conversation context for improvement. Reviewed material can be kept for up to three years, and deleting Gemini activity does not delete data held by connected services. Many connectors are unavailable when Keep Activity is off, so the privacy choice can affect functionality. This guide covers the personal app, not enterprise data terms. No model-quality comparison, research report, media generation, connector action or privacy control was exercised.

Still unclear

  • Answer quality and time saved for a representative task were not tested.
  • Exact allowances, connector availability and checkout terms for a specific account and country were not verified.

Why it made the leaderboard

Worth trying on a low-stakes task whose output you can check, then judge whether review and correction save effort. The entry interface was inspected, but no model response or connected action was tested.
