It first classifies the task, then consults the previous seven days of spending on models for that task category. The user's cost tier and allowed-model restrictions narrow the candidates. For continuing conversations, it prefers the previous model while that model remains a leading candidate, reducing unnecessary switches that rebuild cached input.
