Why it matters

It's one of the few openly licensed datasets of actual production traffic — model, lab, app and provider share over time — so you can your own model choices against real aggregate usage instead of vendor marketing. The CSV export and filterable leaderboard-export API make it directly scriptable rather than a static chart you have to eyeball.

Terms in this piece · Glossary
  • token — The chunk of text a model reads and writes in — roughly three-quarters of a word — and the unit AI usage is billed in.
  • LLM — A large language model — the neural network behind tools like Claude and ChatGPT, trained on huge amounts of text to predict what comes next.
  • benchmark — A standard public test set for comparing AI models — the shared scoreboards behind every "model X beats model Y" claim.
