Did AI Kill React Native?

Shopify says coding agents changed the economics behind its choice of mobile framework. React Native let the company share feature implementations across platforms. In subsequent native-app prototypes, agents could use one platform's implementation as a reference for the other and help maintain parity through shared specifications, tests and review checkpoints. Shopify's engineering account explains why it is returning to Swift and Kotlin.

Maintaining two implementations still costs work. Shopify's article says that cost has not disappeared but is no longer the deciding factor, because agents lowered it. That is a company-specific change in the tradeoff behind React Native, rather than evidence that the framework has lost its usefulness everywhere.
