A shopping assistant needs a way to handle choices such as product size and color without reducing every interaction to text. Shopify's August 2025 MCP UI account describes extending the Model Context Protocol, a standard through which AI agents use outside services, so that tool results can include interactive product components. A shopper can make selections within those components, while actions such as adding an item to a cart are passed back as intents, requests for the agent to interpret rather than changes the component makes itself. This lets the interface handle detailed product choices while keeping the agent informed about the shopper's intended next step.
