The Next Era Of Notion

Notion CEO Ivan Zhao says the company's next chapter is to be the store of business context that AI agents, including agents built by other companies, read from and write to (Notion). The evidence he gives is Notion's own usage data. About half of pages in Notion are now created by agents, a year after it launched its own agents with Notion 3.0, and AI usage inside Notion is up 9x this year. He calls the bigger signal its traffic over MCP, the Model Context Protocol that lets outside AI tools connect to services like Notion, which he says is up roughly 60x this year as other agents use Notion to keep and share their working context. Notion explained how its hosted MCP server works in 2025.

Zhao's argument is that even a capable agent is of little use without the right context, and that large companies such as Stripe, Uber and Meta built their own context systems for that reason. He claims Notion is unusual in having both a place where companies already keep that information and its own agents, and that those agents will keep the context current for people and other agents. These are Notion's claims and figures, given without baselines or outside measurement, and the post announces no new product. The concrete changes are internal: design, product and engineering merged into one organization under one leader, marketing was split between product storytelling and revenue, finance reviews moved from monthly to several times a week, and Notion has started a search for a new CFO.
