Notion's first server mapped its existing API operations directly to tools, but its engineering account says this made working with nested page blocks cumbersome.
The hosted version adds page tools that exchange Notion-flavored Markdown, a text representation extended to describe Notion's blocks. According to the company, this reduces the content a model must process and the number of tool interactions for common workflows. Hosting also lets Notion update those tools without requiring users to install a new server package.
