Unit Testing Ai Agents In The Browser

Context

Browserbase makes browser- more specific by testing whether a single instruction produces the expected action or extracted data. Its Stagehand testing account describes checks such as verifying that a login-button instruction reaches the login URL, or that extracted text matches an expected answer. Tests run three times per model, and many target sites are cloned to reduce changes and bot-blocking interference. This lets developers compare instruction execution, speed, cost and errors under more controlled conditions. It tests the browser interaction layer; a complete agent's planning still involves additional behavior.

Terms in this piece · Glossary
  • AI agent — An AI system that doesn't just answer once but works toward a goal in a loop — taking actions, reading the results, and deciding what to do next.
  • eval — A repeatable test for AI quality — a set of tasks plus scoring — used the way software teams use test suites, because model output is too variable to judge by eyeballing.
