GPT-6 Astra Solves a WWI German Radio Cipher

Context

A published decoding account attributes a proposed reading of a German wartime radio message to OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra. The reconstructed message concerns an English cruiser arriving at Sevastopol and an allied squadron following on the 26th. The author describes applying a historical cipher key, says they are not aware of this message having been decoded before, and notes an unresolved discrepancy: the message was sent on November 27, while the key is thought to have been used from December 9.

There is documentary support for the events described: the transcribed log of HMS Canterbury records its arrival at Sevastopol on November 24, 1918, and an allied squadron arriving on November 26. That agreement makes the proposed reading consistent with known events. It does not by itself verify every decoding step, show that the log describes this message, or establish that the solution is new.
