Fastmail is an independent, subscription-based email hosting company founded in Melbourne, Australia, in 1999 by Rob Mueller, Bruce Davey, and Jeremy Howard. Acquired by Opera Software in 2010, it returned to independence in 2013 through a staff buyout and is now led by CEO Bron Gondwana, with Mueller remaining as CTO. Beyond its core email, calendar, and contacts service, the company also operates the Pobox email service (acquired 2015) and the Topicbox mailing-list product, positioning itself as a privacy-focused alternative to Gmail and Outlook.
