Groq, Inc. is an American AI hardware company founded in 2016 by former Google TPU architect Jonathan Ross and Douglas Wightman, headquartered in Mountain View, California. The company builds the Language Processing Unit (LPU), a purpose-built AI inference chip, offered through the GroqCloud developer platform launched in 2024. In December 2025, Nvidia announced a roughly $20 billion licensing deal for Groq's LPU architecture, with Groq stating it would continue operating independently.
