Career
After university, Castrio worked at Loom and then freelanced. He built Indie Worldwide around introductions and meetings for bootstrapped founders, alongside the AI newsletter Bot Eat Brain. In 2024 he reported selling both businesses, freelancing for ApplyAll and then joining it full-time as a cofounder.[9][1]
Contributions
Make travel time visible as a distorted map
NYC Cartogram combines MTA GTFS subway data with walking access and borough boundaries. The interactive map lets a user pin an origin and inspect estimated travel times while the city warps around it; a separate static SVG expands areas with stronger subway access. The model includes the Staten Island Ferry but excludes buses, regional rail and real-time schedules. A visually nearby place can therefore remain far away in travel time.[2]
Design the introductions, not just the chat room
His Indie Worldwide account describes a founders’ club built around hand-reviewed introductions, alongside community events. Rather than assuming that adding people to a group creates useful connections, he chose which members should meet. His newsletter experiments similarly turned publishing into a repeatable business, with sponsorship commitments helping him maintain a schedule.[8][7]
